Under Hood Lighting

252,200 Miles

Performed: January 13, 2022

I’d been frustrated, hunting down an oil leak that continues to elude me. I needed some progress; something I could finish.

First step was to run the wiring. Everyone I’ve seen do this has used clips to run the wire down the inside surface hood. I wanted to try to hide the wiring a bit. Couldn’t find a wire hanger anywhere in the house or garage. You’d think I live with Joan Crawford.

Key Supplies

I bought more than necessary of everything but the LEDs. The 18 AWG and wire strippers came from the Alpine head unit and amp jobs.

  • 3 Feet High density, waterproof LED strip – $20
  • 18 AWG wire, about six feet – $12
  • Inline fuse holder – $8
  • Pin switch – $7.

Nice to Have

  • Adhesive Wire Clips – $8
  • 3M Adhesion Promoter to prepare surfaces – $9.
  • Miscellaneous Wire Connectors – $20
  • Wire Strippers – $22
