I don’t do a lot of towing but reading about transmission temps, turning off OD and using ECT got me thinking about the last trip to Portland. There were some pretty steep inclines where I left OD on thinking lower RPMs was best. I’d no idea that this would skyrocket transmission temps.

In addition to that, there’s a chance I may be towing a motorcycle trailer in the future.
I went with the GlowShift gauge.
My thinking was it was cheaper than the MaxTow and I didn’t need the digital readout. Turns out I think I wish I had it.

Installation wasn’t difficult, just tedious. I did the wiring first and assembled the brass fittings for the sensor.
Then I installed the sensor and moved the Magnefine filter to the radiator return.
The temp gauge has 7 color options. The default blue was hideous. The white seems okay. Haven’t tried the other 5 colors.
One of these days I’ll take off those protective covers and push that bolt cover all the way in.
How about that sweet gauge mount from Spiker?
Went for a drive to test out the gauge and was seeing about 175 around town and 135 freeway, OD on. Coolant temp 194. Outside temp 98+. After returning I added about 1/3 quart ATF. Lost more than I thought during install and repositioning the Magnefine filter. The white color wasn’t saved after test drive. I hope that’s a fluke because I’m not keen on removing it and returning to Amazon.
I was about to order a B&M 70264 external transmission cooler but started looking at other options and now I’m at the edge of another rabbit hole.
