New Headlights

Performed: September 11, 2021

Decided to give TYC headlight assemblies for a ’99 4Runner a shot based on what I’ve read at T4R.org. They’re supposed to be a good deal brighter than the stock ’96/’97 lights. RockAuto wanted $85 for a pair. I went with Amazon Warehouse for about $40. What could go wrong?

The replacement was easy enough. I’m missing 2 grill clips so I’ll need to find the part number and stock up but it hasn’t fallen off yet.

I noticed the driver side headlight seemed to be aimed incorrectly. I’m not stoked about it but figured I’d give it a shot for $40. At least with Amazon Prime I can send them back if it’s terrible.

  • Definitely a difference.
  • Regular
  • Brights
  • Looks good in the daylight.

What could go wrong? Can’t properly adjust the driver’s side. Time to swap the old housings back in, send these back and be on the lookout for new arrivals at Pick-n-Pull.
