Lateral Control Rod (Panhard bar) Bushings

Performed: November 3, 2021

I though this would be a good first test of the “new” 20 ton Harbor Freight shop press and the new sleeve kit. Two bushings. What could go wrong?

The rod was easy enough to remove.

Turns out the bushings were so narrow I ended up using a 13mm impact socket to press them into a larger press sleeve.

I greased the new bushings, pressed them in by hand and attempted to simply reinstall the bar.

I got the left side lined up and had to use the Toyota jack to push the right side up into place.

(the cinder blocks from Henry’s rocket stove came in handy for this)

I had to jack the 4Runner up higher than I’ve had it to get the left side into place. The more horizontal the bar, the easier it became.

(I wish I’d had the floor jack on something flat and horizontal)

What went wrong? Nothing. I moved very slowly and it took 2 hours.
